Environment:

One of the prime objectives is to provide the students, staff and patrons of the  district with healthy environment to learning and work.


Indoor Air Quality:

Our quest to improve indoor air quality for students and staff starts with the District’s Value Statements that states:  “We believe…..a safe, caring and orderly environment is required for quality teaching and learning.”

In 2005, the District  purchased the first of two Facility Performance Monitors (Optima 500) from Aircuity.  This comprehensive technology is used to address occupant complaints as well as for building system commissioning.

IAQ parameters such as temperature, relative humidity, TVOC, airborne particulate, CO, CO2, radon, ozone and mold have studied in these locations with action plans and report findings being shared with affected staff and departments using the IAQ Response Protocol developed by the District IAQ Team.  Through our Facilities Work Order system, District HVAC technicians, Custodial service personnel as well as the Construction and Energy Management departments have been brought into the comprehensive solution team as the findings dictate.  In the majority of cases, conditions and building systems have been improved to address concerns generated by District employees or students and/or their parents.  The results are also used in long range planning efforts.

Our IAQ building commissioning efforts have not only save energy costs but has ensured that system works properly to provide an adequate supply of fresh and clean air to all building occupants as designed.  The District was a 2007 recipient of the Facilities Master Award by the Association of School Business Officials International.  This prestigious national award was presented to the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District for its’ exemplary facilities management plan which includes recognition of our IAQ comprehensive, intra-departmental approach to enhancing student performance.
